Thanks to both of you for your help.
I found a small photo in the Interurbans Western and Southern District book showing a photo looking almost stright down the ROW with the depot on the right and what appears to be Avalon blvd at the far end of the depot and other details.
With the Google view, it would then appear that the depot was probably situated next to the inbound track.
If this is true, then it would mean the captions for the photos showing the depot in the book titled Pacific Electric Railway - Vol 3 by Golden West are in error.
As discussed an earlier post, the ERHA PE station book erroreously dipicts a map of the San Pedro depot area as being Wilmington.
