SP building sign

If I recall correctly, that building is clearly in line of sight down California Street. Also, if I recall correctly, many years ago (in the 1950s, perhaps) there was an enormous sign on top of it with just "SP" that raised the ire of some people who felt it detracted from an otherwise-pleasant view of the landmark building from California Street. Or is my memory rather faulty these many years later?
