The rear end controllers were used to access the Geneva carbarn until the loop track was constructed. Also, J and M cars had wyes at their 30th St. and Broad & Plymouth terminals, respectively, that required the use of the back-end controllers. Other routes had loops at the terminals. In addition, turn-back cars at 35th & Taraval and 30th & Judah as well as pull-ins and pull-outs using the 11th & Market wye regularly used those controllers. All cars had poles at both ends, per Muni standard, for reverse moves. They still do on the refurbished PCCs, etc. working the F line.
