On the Benicia/Martinez rail bridge it is impossible to visually see both ends of the bridge from the control room of the bridge that hangs from the structure about 1/3 of the way across from the Martinez side. A way to correct this was found, and periscopes were placed in front of both sides of the control room and viewable through the control room windows. These periscopes do not aim UP! They aim DOWN. Giving the operator a visual look at the bridge deck to both ends. Ingenious!!
