Gimme a break on the politics.

Government vs. Private Enterprise has nothing to do with it. Emergency needs and cubic dollars will always make the difference. Reconstruction of the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge and I-10 in Los Angeles were done very quickly and were *Considerably* more complicated than rebuilding a 20' high trestle out of on-hand prefabricated components.

Since when are "speed" and "efficiency" associated with the day to day operations of the Union Pacific?
