Happens with airports all the time.

I love it when lawsuits force airport authorities to spend money to soundproof the homes (triple-pane windows, extra insulation, etc.) built near the airport long after the airport was there.

Some smaller airports have even been shut down because of noise complaints. Many major airports have curfews because of the same, and some published traffic patterns incorporate noise abatement procedures.

All because John (and Jane) Q. Public (especially in the Lawsuit States of America) doesn't want to take personal responsibility for his (and her--gotta be gender neutral here) actions and instead wants the world to revolve around him (and her).

(Sorry--after having worked with the traveling public for the last four years, I've developed a really cynical view of humanity. The general public really are as stupid and lost as a bunch of sheep--there is truth to the wonderful adage that the IQ of the group is the lowest IQ in the group divided by the number of people in the group. Oh--and never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.)
