Mr. Dodds is correct, in that UP1983 will NOT pull this train. Also, the Power Desk in Omaha says that 1 Amtrak unit pulling 3 cars is plenty of power for this train. Now if the train was running between Omaha and Chicago, they would have no choice but to put a UP unit on the point so as to be able to pull the train in ATC Territory, since UP Road Engines (including E Units 951, 949, & DD40AX unit 6936) are equipped with ATC Cab Signals, and Amtrak Engines are not ATC equipped.
Since we are on this topic, it should be noted that many Amtrak units are equipped with ACS that is found in some UP Territories. This is the same ACS System that is in use on BNSF's Chicago Subdivision between Aurora and Chicago, however, Amtrak and BNSF freight trains are not required to have the ACS cut-in and working on this line, only Metra/BNSF commuter trains.
