Who am I? Well....lets see! I've been around for a while, posting on here for something like a decade, although sporadically. I'm also active over at the NP Telltale Railway Preservation News, and the Narrow Gauge Discussion Forum. I've been a member of the NPRHA for many years.
I've been a railfan for a few years, as this 1953 photo makes clear! The engine is NP 684 at Kanasket, WA.
I grew up in an NP family, dad hired out in 1946 as a brakeman and was with the BN as a senior conductor, working Amtrak when he retired in 86. He loved working on the NP, and also liked taking me along with him quite often. His favorite jobs were on the branchlines, where taking a kid wasn't a problem. I probably rode an average of twice a month from age 5 until I was something like 22 or 3.
In 1964, when I met Jack Anderson, scraping and painting NP 1364, I joined in, and was made an honorary member of the Tacoma NRHS along with the rest of our crew. I worked at Camp 6 along with Jack, Tim Johnson and sometimes Roy Cutler, the first few years of operation.
Jack, Tim and I got pretty serious about photography, I had a head start with dad being so into it. Jack went on to be a major player in steam restoration, I went with photography.
