SMART will almost certainly have to ramp up its projected fare schedule and fact the prospect of a dwindling Northbay-SF commute.
Other problems: the Northbay continues to spend large sums on highway expansion and diesel has no place to go but up. If the last 2 years has proven anything it is that Americans live to burn gasoline(and diesel). The Great Recession has established a floor for oil pricing and with rising consumption guess what to expect.
SMART's decision to go diesel is only cheaper in the short run.
