Re: Poll: The WORST things about railfanning

I think it's when you invite a railfan that's never seen your part of the country, and you invite him to come along with you for a day to show him the good places to railfan. Then you realize he has the patience of a 2year-old, and after he paces around the ROW for 15 minutes, and up to, say, opposing signals to see if they're lit, a train shows up, and Mr. impatient ends up in your photo, forever imbedding himself into your photo archives.
I had that happen, and if this guy wasn't in a shot, he was deeply sleeping in the car from the effects of jet-lag, and with the reaction time of a lemur, never got a pic to preserve the memories. The best part for me is that after a few trains, he set his camera back into his bag, and "wanted to fully watch a train pass without the distractions of using his camera". It was his attempt to recover his own pride, hopefully without me feeling sorry for him. didn't work.
I now choose my railfan buddies very carefully.
