Three Interurban lines operated sleeping cars, Illinois Traction, Interstate, and Oregon Electric.
IT ran sleepers between East St. Louis, Decater, and Springfield.
A car opened in East St. Louis at 9:30 PM, departed at midnight, and arived Springfield at 4 AM, laid over until 8 AM, and arrived Decater 9:30 AM. Service into Peoria, 172 miles, ended in 1940.
Interstate operated sleepers between Indianaplois and Louisville, 117 miles. The sleeping car left Indianapolis at 11:30 PM. It was set out at Scottsburg IN until 6:10 when it left for Louisville arriving at 7:05 AM. Sleeping car service ended in 1932.
Oregon Electric operated sleeping cars between Portland and Eugene, 122 miles. Running time was six hours. Sleeping car service ended in 1928.
None of the Interurban sleeping car operations were successful. They were an effort to capture the traveling salesman market or in the case of IT part of a grand plan to extend the line between St. Louis and Chicago.
