I find that my motives have become a subject of discussion on this forum. I passed out flyers about the 2472 during the triple tank engine steam up because there is long history of cooperation among various railfan groups in the Bay Area. I was on board and because of my association with 2472 I knew I would be asked about it. So I wrote the flyer the night before. I am also a member of PLA, and I am working actively on a PLA committee as well as doing GGRM activities. In the past I have publicized PLA activities to the GGRM and NorCal mailing lists and PLA has done the same for me when asked. I showed the flyer to some PLA managers in the morning and no one said anything against it at the time. In the afternoon, one objected and I stopped. PLA is has many managers and it very hard to get everyone to agree or even know who to ask. I apologize to anyone who thinks I was acting improperly.
My motives? I want the 2472 to operate again. I have spent much time and money on this. I want to find others who share this passion who are willing to help.
Because the GGRM has a “one voice” policy I will not comment on most of commentary in this thread. But I will note that the GGRM has gone from a nearly bankrupt museum with few volunteers with a rusting collecting of over 80 railcars and locomotives at the end of 2001, to a healthy organization with a smaller, focused, maintainable collection, active workers, and money in the bank that has survived eviction from our home at Hunter Point. And the 2472 will be running soon.
Re: Margaret Monroe
Margaret became ill last year year and had to retire. Glaucoma has also taken away her ability to see well enough to drive. I am sorry to say that unless she gets rides with friends she is no longer everyplace where there is railfan action.
