Re: Port of Pasco--How much trackage removed?

As an old military base, it had what they all had--WAY too much track. Every corridor between buildings had the usual 2 or 3 tracks. There are probably 30 switches being removed--almost all of them on unused crossovers.
The best thing about the new configuration is that the lead track to the port now comes off of the Walla Walla main near the grain yard instead of the mainline near the Columbia River drawbridge. The new turnout is east-facing so a train can come straight out of Pasco Yard and go inside. Currently, they have to leave the yard, tie up the busy mainline, and back in.
