539 has 28" cylinder bores, 1" larger than 4960. Both have the same 30" stroke. 539 also has more weight on the drivers. She also has a short combustion chamber like 4960. My feeling is that her 63" drivers vs. the 55" ones on 18 and 20 had a lot to do with the trade. I'd agree, if she ever gets rebuilt in WMS, it'd be worth the trip out there to ride behind her. There are few places in the country where a steam locomotive gets a workout that stiff...and on a daily basis during steam season.
