That would require a change of heart on the part of the power elite that runs the Northbay(the Press Democrat is pretty much their mouthpiece). They have sunk a small fortune of taxpayer funds into the NWP and the permanent loss of the Eureka end would be seen as a rebuke of their long-range plan.

I am sure they are scurrying around behind the scenes trying to secure a permanent subsidy for the NWP.
