About 1951 The "Olympian Hiawatha" operated with diesels between Chicago and Harlowton MT, electric Harlowton to Avery ID, STEAM between Avery and Othello WA, then electric for the final lap to Seattle-Tacoma. The steam locos used were two 4-8-4 oil burning sisters of MILW 261, being the 262 and 267. I recall one night being invited into the cab of (I think) the 267 in Spokane. I was mightly impressed!

Here are some pictures I took of the 261 in Minneapolis on 10/9/2005. This locomotive is no slouch and the restoration is immaculate, with fantastic attention to detail.
