Contractor is working on tunnels that were bad, expects to be done in the spring. Port is negotiating with UPRR on the track from Cordes to Coquille (UP still owns except for the swing bridge - the lease with CORP for this first has to be terminated). No RFP yet, but eventually there will be one for a contract operator. Latest target was to be running trains by thrid quarter of 2010, but there is a ton oftrack and bridge work ($millions) that is supposed to be done first and no grant money awarded to do it. Rail traffic from Vaughn and Noti is being trucked to reload, trucking subsidized by the Port. This was cheaper than finding a temporary operator for 17 miles Eugene-Vaughn at low traffic levels.
