The BC government was wise to sell the "shell" of BCRail. Give it a few more years and the entire thing would be razed for the right-of-way. The BC Ministry of Transportation (like the DOT) was really looking into using the roadbed as the new Southbound lanes of HWY99 between parts of Whistler and Vancouver, BC for the 2010 olympics. The railroad tracks would have been positioned in the fast lane. What a dumb idea. PGE was built to move lumber, coal and stuff like that to other markets faster than by boat and cheaper than by truck- not be exploited for a 16 day event.

It's just too bad that CN got a monopoly in BC because of the sale.
