Nice to see Mr. Arnold come out of hiding. For those who don't know him, Mr. Arnold is the mouth piece for "Marinites for Effective Transportation". If cooler heads hadn't prevailed, Mr. Arnold was lobbying for the NWP row of way to be paved over to run busses instead of SMART. He has spearheaded the anti-Smart faction from Day One. Remember Misty ESQ. and others a few months back?
Now you know where all of the NCR-NWP-SMART opposition was coming from. He is definitely on the wrong track again. The DEIR now in its' 45 day comment period covers the Lombard to Willits segment. A separate EIR will cover the Eel, if and when it is feasible for the NCRA to get enough money to do the job. However, they way the economy is going and all government entities bleeding money, it is going to a few years at best before trains run north of Willits, if at all. As I said before in other posts, Mr. Arnold and others who share his ludicrous beliefs, do not want to see any operations on the NWP whether it be SMART or Freight. I have debated Mr. Arnold several times on public access TV in Marin, and I tell you views are not consistent with current modern environmental thinking when it comes to the efficiency of rail transportation. His thinks that buses can do a better job then rail and be more efficient defies logic. The bus emissions would ADD not subtract from the current amount of particulate matter in the AIR over Marin County. Listening to Mr. Arnold makes me think that he is being paid off by Firestone Tire, GM and Texaco. Sound familiar?
