Jon above is correct, all that is just an untrue rumor. UP has no plans what so ever to dispose of the Winnemucca and Canyon Subdivisions and Sacramento Subdivision between Oroville and Binney Jct. and for that matter, in addition, the rest of the Sacramento Subdivision. In fact, UP is currently working on new business for these lines. These Subdivisions are extremely important to the UP. They are through, mainline routes and in sometime in 10 or more years from now, they are going to be extremely happy that they have these subdivisions. UP learned the hard, money, business way, you get rid of lines such as these, it may not be right now, but not too distant into the future, you will screw yourself. Yes it costs money to maintain these lines, but ALL lines do. It is cheaper to keep and maintain these lines, than it is to either shut them down, then try to bring them back later or get rid of them and then in the future, spend 3 times the money to get them back, then spend even double to get them back up to shape and speed.
