Reading & Northern Railroad’s ex-Gulf, Mobile & Northern light Pacific No. 425 powered an excursion over former Reading and Central Railroad of New Jersey lines between Port Clinton and Jim Thorpe, PA on October 10th, 2009. The trip was an early sellout, with over 600 passengers riding. Looking sharp in its bright blue paint, the 425 made a fine sight as it passed through eastern Pennsylvania at the peak of the fall foliage season. Coupled behind the 425 were a pair of R&N SD50s and eight cars. After being out of service since 1996, R&N shop forces overhauled the 4-6-2 at their Port Clinton, PA facility during 2007. The 425 was built by Baldwin in 1928 for the Gulf, Mobile & Northern RR, and was purchased by the Reading & Northern in 1984. Here are a few photos from our chase of this trip.
