Don, Your speculation is probably correct about the braking. What is the common length of the trains that you see?

For some reason, CP does the DPU thing with the occasional intermodal on the Cascade Sub. However, I only have seen them placed on intermodals in the winter months. I don't know if it's coincedence, or is there advantage to DPU braking characteristics in the cold weather?
