Vernon trackage went south to La Cadena and followed LCD to Colton, just short of the "shortway" ATSF trackage and then turned eastward to join the Colton Ave. line at 9th and once upon a time crossed the SP Colton yard with 7 (I think) diamonds. On the south side of SP Colton Yd, both SP and PE street ran about a mile south on S.9th where the two diverged. SP took a more easterly route to Riverside through Grand Terrace and crossed at grade with the ATSF San Jacinto branch. The PE curved more west, crossed the Santa Ana AGAIN (and I think flew over the ATSF) to take an alignment that paralleled La Cadena to Orange Ave. By the way SP had a Riverside depot at one time. So in early times SP had passenger operations all over the place too with many strange combinations of trackage rights and independent ownership. I believe that this SP (now UP)line is referred to as the Riverside Industrial lead. Going North on Mt. Vernon from Rialto Ave., the line curved east onto 3rd, and this has been well covered in the other threads. The San Berdoo 3rd ST. depot was joint SP/PE.
