A friend of mine that lives in Northeast Oregon, was telling me that the Wallowa Union Railroad has not been moving carloads out of the mill at Wallowa for some time now due to the downturn in the housing market. They may not have any loads out of the mill for several months. They used to move 6-8 cars a week. I was also told that most of the lumber from the mill is currently going to Bosie and Spokane, and due to the fact that it takes 3 railroads(WURR, INP and UP) to get the lumber to those places, the WURR is just not competitive.
The only traffic besides the occasional tourist train is a few carloads for a local propane distributer in Enterprise. I hope things trun around for them.
