I believe that the electricity used by the French Train was provided by nuke power. From the looks of all the arcing on the overhead wire, they may have to find a new overhead system to get any more speed out of it. I stand by the figures on net energy loss in Ethanol, it was provided to my by one of the largest producers of the fuel and is current as of 1/07. Included in the figures are growing the raw material, (farming, fertilizer, chemicals, harvesting), transportation and handling of raw materials and energy consumed processing it into fuel and purification. Not included in the figures are energy required to distribute end product (it cannot be shipped in pipe lines) energy used to handle waste products and feed products that are byproducts of the processing. Most figures in the paper only include what it takes to produce the fuel and that way it looks o.k., take in the whole picture from beginning to end and the actual costs in terms of energy mount quickly. Sorry.
