And I'm sure WAF remembers that towards the end, on some subdivisions the scheduled trains were removed from the timetable in one direction only, with trains moving in the opposite direction operating as Extras. The Cut-Off and the Coast come to mind.

So that brings up a question: Which subdivision was the last to have scheduled freight trains?

As to Drew's photo that started this thread, it appears to me that the racks that held the numbers for the indicators are missing. I can't remember if they were removeable on the Alcos or what the deal is in the photo, but it's unlikely that they were stolen by railbuffs.
