It seems to me, what may be getting people all excited is that some are looking at costs, possible consequences, etc, without focusing on the real issue -- is PTC an important and worthwhile safety improvement, or not? If so, it should be done -- the "corporations" will figure out how to make it work. If it's not important and worthwhile, then it shouldn't be done.
But that is the only truly relevant question. The "corporations" have whined -- I mean, protested -- about every labor and safety regulation since the beginning of time, and always will. But the level of whining/protesting doesn't answer the core question: important and worthwhile or no.
Now, the fact that the "corporations" may choose to implement an unwelcome rule in the most obnoxious way possible, that's another problem.
