I was curious about the details in getting from the south side of the canyon to the north. Hwy 2 makes a rather low level crossing of one canyon with an immediate steep climb. Even with only a slight rise in elevation, it seems a fairly hefty trestle would be needed to cross from the south side of the canyon to the north. I would have enjoyed an explanation of how the tracks got from one side of the canyon to the other.
Additionally there is some evidence to suggest that the issue of avalanches would be a concern along the south side as well. In "Vis Major" the railroaders are reported to be quite aware of many snow slides on the south side of the canyon, preceding the big one that took out Wellington.
