Plus, all the hiking and biking enthusiasts who are pushing for the line to have a trail built alongside it will probably demand that all train movements take place in the wee hours of the morning, so as not to cause a possible dangerous scenario with them.
This is one of the drawbacks of the Operation Lifesaver program. John Q. Public has now been brainwashed into thinking that ALL trains are dangerous, at any time, in any direction. In the eyes of this new, enlightened general public, the "solution" is to never allow an abandoned track to have its rails replaced (kiss off any possibility of restored service to Monterey) and to promote accelerated programs for getting those ugly, noisy and DANGEROUS trains out of their neighborhoods and have the track converted to a trail. Heck, now there are a lot of NIMBYS who don't even want the abandoned right-of-way converted into a trail because that MIGHT bring in some low-lifes and undesireables who MIGHT want to vandalize or break in to their house.
