EVENT NAME: Shekell Complex Updated Flash Report
DATE/TIME OF REPORT: 12/04/06 at 0815Hours
DATE/TIME OF EVENT: 12/03/06 at 0251 Hours
LOCATION: Moorpark Area, Ventura County
IMPACT OF EVENT: Moderate
SITUATION UPDATE: The Fire continues to burn near the city of Moorpark
and communities of Grimes Canyon and New Egg City. As of 0600 hours, the
fire was reported at 9,686 acres and 0 % contained. The fire continues
to be wind driven, winds reported 25-30 MPH with gusts 40-45 MPH up to
60 MHP at the higher mountain peaks. Low humidifies 5-10% continue.
Today's weather is predicted to be similar to yesterday with higher day
time temps.
Precautionary evacuations remain in place, but many residents have
chosen to "shelter in place". Two Shelters remain open; large animal
shelter is located at Ventura Co Fairgrounds and small animal shelter at
Simi Valley shelter site.
Power lines continue to be threatened. Along with the threat to
residential, industrial, agricultural and commercial properties are also
threatened. Union Pacific Railroad/Metrolink line was closed 12/03/06
for approximately 6 hours for track repair due to fire damage. The
tracks were re-opened at midnight, per Union Pacific Railroad officals.
Highways 23 and 118 near the fire remain closed in both directions.
5 residences are reported destroyed, 5 residences damaged, and 3 out
buildings destroyed, 2 commercial destroyed.
Resources on site, in addition to numerous Ventura County single
engines, 18 Region 1, strike teams (3 OES, 15 local government) 1 OES
water tender. On order 7 additional type 1 strikes teams (7 OES) are
in-route. Two OES Assitant Chiefs Bondshu and Messer and 1 Fire Support
unit (Corona) are on site at the Incident Command Ppst, OES fire
mechanic (Mansel) is in-route, 1- OES dispatcher is assigned to South
Ops. Total of 100 engines, 400 personnel.
The incident has ordered the DC-10 air tanker and hopes to have it
operational by 1000 hours this morning.
