In the next few days, as time permits I will be uploading some photos taken by the late John Hungerford from the collection of Tom Moungovan.
Most of the old timers on this board are familiar with John's books and photography, although they may have never met him. However, for anyone who has ever enjoyed one of those books or photos Tom, has written capsule history of the gentleman and supplied a photo for those who never met him.
John was an Editor for the L.A. Times and interviewed both Winston Churchill and Prime Minister Atlee. He got started taking slides in 1954 and his first image was of South West Lbr. Mills 2-6-6-2 #4 in Flagstaff, AZ.. His collection numbered about 6,900 Kodachrome slides. He also had the Hungerford Press and published some small format hardcover books on Hawaiian railroads, D&RGW n.g., and SP Cab-Forwards.
I met him once. We traveled up to McCloud and back for a PLA outing with #25 with John and Virgil and LaVada Staff. John also traveled with Ed Ripley, Guy Dunscomb, John Shaw, Don Duke, Jim Ehernberger and Al Rose.
Cheers,
Jack
