The Columbine, the train, remained in service until 1950 when it was discontinued. Although the website doesn't expressly say so, I would guess that what is now the Columbine, the car, went to Amtrak in 1971 and UP repurchased it in 1989 when Amtrak cut back on dome coaches as Superliners had pretty much taken over. It was then named the Columbine, after the former train, as many of the cars are named after former trains, all of which had been discontinued before the renamings.
