When I was a UC Santa Barbara student during the 1970s, the Los Angeles Times was my paper of choice. After graduating, I left California, but have returned several occasions for vacations and professional meetings and would always pick up the Los Angeles Times.
In addition to the documentary mentioned by Richard Elgenson, PBS also aired a show about the impact of the Tribune's purchase on the Los Angeles Times.
How sad to see it go down hill.
I can't imagine life without newspapers.
Getting the discussion back "on track," many of the larger newspapers such as the Los Angeles Times published in their Sunday travel sections, extensive articles about train travel. The disappearance of newspapers will be one less source of reasonably positive publicity for passenger trains.
