I believe SP would slap restricted speed on a certain radius after a 5.0 until a train went over the segment. Track and bridge inspectors were called out for larger quakes. Since Omaha bought the property, it's been inconsistent at best. A moderate quake in that range hit near Milpitas a couple years ago and UP shut down all of the track from Oakland to Hollister until it was inspected by hirail. It was a bit of a clusterF#$% with nobody knowing where they should be inspecting, overlaps, etc. All the while Amtrak and freights sat dead in the water. Hopefully they learned something that night back in the bunker.
