The train is called out of Cranbrook at around 1630 every day, 7 days a week. It meets its eastbound counterpart at McConnell (thats about 10-15 minutes east from Creston) which is the next siding east from Creston, and at McConnell the two trains swap train crews and head back to their home terminals. The westbound usually arrives in Nelson sometime in the early morning hours, then changes crew there and continues on to Trail. At Trail the train is dropped off in the yard and it picks up the eastbound train and heads back to Nelson, changes crews, then heads eastward to McConnell and Cranbrook. Power for the trains are normally 3 CP SD40-2's and the size of the trains can vary anywhere from 20 to 70 cars. There is also a road-switcher that is based at Trail that switches the yard there and runs up the hill to Warfield and back. Power for that job are two CP GP38-2's. At Castlegar there is a CP switch engine with a caboose to switch the pulp mill there 5 days a week. Train track speeds along the whole line are no more then 25mph and there are many slow order sections that brings the train speed down to 10mph. The section of track between Nelson and Creston is mostly inaccessable due to the train tracks being on one side of the lake and the highway running along the other side of the lake. During late spring and early summer would be the best times to photograph the section of track between Cranbrook and Creston for the longer daylight hours.
