The r/w/b paint on 3197 lasted until at least 1982, far longer than most of the bicentennial paint jobs.
After starting out on the LABRT and other hot trains, and then in commute service, the GP40P-2s wound up in local freight service. I remember running into one of the switching sidings near McClellan Park near Sacramento about 10 years or so ago. The mighty had fallen far.
