Reno and trains again

I read in this morning's Reno Gazette-Journal, that the citizens of West Reno and Verdi are upset by the increase in train traffic. There is the usual list of complaints about horns "blasting" through the night, etc. When I was released from active duty in the Navy in 1968 I moved back to Reno to renew my newspaper career. I was looking for a place to live and a classified ad caught my eye: "Must Like Trains". It was a little house by the main in Verdi. I decided not to rent it because it was 11 miles from Reno, way too far to commute I thought. Instead I rented an apartment in Sparks that turned out to be under the approach path to the Reno airport. Oh well. One thing, though, there weren't any homes along the tracks between Reno and Verdi in those days. I guess the trench should have been longer :-) JB
