Rotaries again

With the recent interest in rotaries, you might enjoy a nice video of one working in Nebraska not long ago.

And for historians out there, would you know how long rotaries have been around on the railroads? I'm aware of a few (steam powered) on the Colorado narrow gauge which I think date to earlier 1900s. Does that sound reasonable? Did rotaries first appear earlier than that?
