STAFF REPORTS
A Union Pacific train derailed in the Dateland area during Thursday evening's storm.
According to Zoe Richmond, director of public affairs for Union Pacific Railroad, 28 container cars derailed sometime after 7 p.m. The train was being operated by a two-person crew Richmond said and there were no injuries as a result of the derailment.
"We have two tracks in that area and both tracks are blocked," said Richmond.
As of 9 p.m. U.P. personnel were on their way to the scene and Richmond said it would take some time to get needed equipment and crews to the area to clean up the site. She stated that crews may need to wait until daylight to see the extent of the damage and to make sure they can inspect the area in a safe manner.
"With the condition of the roads and the weather, our response has been impacted," Richmond said.
The derailment is currently under investigation and it is not known if weather conditions contributed to the accident.
