I don't know about Ocean Shore, but the Uintah is what I had in mind...they ordered a pair of new 0-6-2T engines from Baldwin and over the course of a few years, flat wore them out. Each was good for one (1) small wooden passenger car out of Atchee up over Baxter Pass. If ever a
railroad justified the use of Superheaters, this was one, but these two rod engines and all the
2T Shays were Saturated engines. I still don't know why they & Lima did not get together and try to design something a little bigger than the standard 2T Shays that they used.
If anyone ever is in the area and is interested in exploring old ROW's, you owe it to yourself to take the drive out of Mack and at least go as far as Atchee. The concrete walls of the old machine shop are still standing and make a nice frame to view and photograph the line heading up to the summit of Baxter Pass.
Good job Tim.
