They took over the operation of the branch from UP the first of the year with the loco based in Santa Cruz. However, Brian Bergtold just posted this word on another list:

According to reports in the Santa Cruz paper, Cemex made official a permanent shutdown of their Davenport cement plant. Laying off the skeleton crew and making plans for removing their stored hoppers pointed to this, but this is the first time they publicly acknowledged it.

The Santa Cruz Branch's biggest customer is now history unless someone buys it from Cemex.
