IIRC, the first San Joaquin schedule started in 1974 with "heritage" cars pulled by Fs, Es (briefly), and then SDP40Fs. The second schedule started in 1978, when F40PHs and Amfleet cars showed up. I don't remember exactly when the SJs started using Superliner and ex-ATSF Hi-Level cars, but it must have been around 1986 or so. The route then got brand-new Horizon cars when it went to three round trips a day in December 1989.
