The display of train numbers on non-commute trains ended in 1967, as Drew indicated. SP Commute trains always have displayed train numbers until the end of SP operations, and continue to do so under Caltrain. There was a #110 commute train, coincidental to the locomotive in the photo displaying its own number, 110.

Was the UP the only other railroad to display train number in the locomotive number boxes? Or, were there more?
