David-
There is nothing I can add to the commentary and great testimony given about the tremendous service and value you have offered to the railfan community in the form of continuing AP timetables and this forum. May I take a bit of artistic license from your statement that this need not be a curtain call, but rather a strategic pause in the continuity of what has seemed to be a perennial flow of timetables and forum pages? I don't think the impact of the depressed economy can be overstated. Not only are you having difficulty in accumulating fresh data, but many of us are having trouble making the trips we used to take for granted to photograph trains and network the railfan grapevine to become aware of the new changes. Ironically, the "data" of late usually consists of where the latest abandonments and line truncations have occurred, but occasionally there is a bright spot where a line is spun off and a new operation begins. I think all of us can get by for another year if a new timetable does not happen. I just hope that the temporary pessimism that a discourteous patron can cause will not cause you to lose faith completely. Please be open in the forum in sharing your needs to be able to continue. I mean that to include the possibility of having a fee-based forum. I share your feelings about the commercialistic aspects of your endeavor here, and I would only recommend that option as a last resort, and hopefully temporary at that. Please don't give up the ship, just let us know what we can do to help to keep it afloat. I hope to see you at Winterail.
