Milwaukee also ran switchers to a lumber mill on the Northwest end of Lake Whatcom. Would leave Bellingham, go northeast and over I 5, (bridge is still there) and then loop around what is called Alabama Hill as Alabama St ran east/west from Lake Whatcom to DT Bellingham. NP also switched the mill..

I remember the mill steam whistle blowing each day for shift workers and lunch.

Also remember Milwaukee getting trackage rights from Bellingham to Everett after GN/NP merger.

Anyone remember when the Milwaukee came out on the BN Mainline against the block and collided with BN switch engine in South Bellingham??? Bent the frame on the BN locomotive. Would luv to find the article on that..my father was the engineer on the BN locomotive that day.
