Thanks for sharing. References to Nazis or Gestapo by me are influenced greatly by my father's generation who were children during WWII, many of which influenced me growing up. Many of his generation welcomed Nazi flags and paraphanelia as trophies of conquest and righteous victory- and little else. We kicked their ass and took their flag. As the WWII propaganda machine wound down, much of the mentality of belittling the Axis carried forth in the form of jokes and sarcastic comparisons, but often today these references are perceived as offensive by those in my generation who have no idea what it means to foster the strength needed to facilitate a uniform social agenda to prevail over Hell on earth. Although there are volumes of WWII artwork, radio plays, letters and opinions tearing down the Axis by any intellectual means available- including sarcasm and off-color jokes, too many of us today worry about who might be offended by what color we paint our rifles.
Often, planting the seed needed to grow the vine of victory begins with propaganda itself, and comparing something to the Gestapo, the Nazis, Stalin or Chairman Mao is simply just one more way to shine the worst possible light on an inherrently bad idea, plan or event. This notion of pouring sarcasm into a discussion is not limited to WWII events, and is certainly not new. Surley, you've never heard the punch lines "Just don't drink the punch" or "Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"
Keep in mind that when grass roots efforts that are really a bad idea for society gather steam, we all somehow wind up paying for it in the long run. Adolph and his boys in black didn't just suddenly come to power. And I'm glad FARC was squashed before they assessed a blue collar community with a billion-dollar boondoggle. While you and others may take offense to my remarkable comparison, you also have the right to be offended, and you are more than welcome to contact the webmaster and request censorship. I offer no apologies, nor am I remorseful if you are troubled by my comparison. You are not obligated to agreement.
Finally, I cannot further any more comment on this matter it easily dissolves from the nature of this board, that being of railroads and railfan related topics.
