The track from Ione to Martell is maintained as the Amador Foothills Railroad by the Recreational Railroad Coalition (RRC) under a lease agreement with Sierra Pacific Industries. The superintendent is Dave Balestreri. Motorcar excursions occur several times a year under NARCOA operating rules. Last year the volunteers of RRC completed installation of a switch (from scratch) to restore the original turning wye at Ione. The locomotive pictured in your post is currently "abandoned" at Martell, in supposedly operational condition. Ownership is cloudy at best, and as I understand, UP won't allow it to go anywhere. The former freight depot is the subject of great local interest for preservation by the City of Ione, the RRC and local historical groups.
