I'm sure he was just grasping at another straw - in his stealth opposition to public funding for rail; even it was merely "just compensation" for having to move the tracks to accommodate a public flood control project. I wonder if he knows that such compensation to any private property thus affected, is required by the Constitution.
But actually, we shouldn't lay this one on him alone, as the story was actually originated on the Senate floor by a hip-shooting politician - Senator McCain himself. Mostly (there was one exception), the useless media merely picked it up and sensationalized it without checking, just to sell another newspaper.
I personally think they sell fewer newspapers because of shenanigans of that sort, but they they won't be listening to me anytime soon, anyway - Oh Well.
