Portland Streetcar

Stacey and Whitbeck, the contractors for the eastside extension of the Portland streetcar, have began laying the first tracks for the project. A two block section on NE Grand Avenue in front of the Metro building already has the subbase completed and the tracks should be installed in the next couple of weeks.

Stacey and Whitbeck has become pretty good at putting down the track. They normally do a couple of blocks at a time before moving on. Thus, interruption to businesses is kept to a minimum. The installation of the overhead will take place at a later time and normally involves very little disruption to normal traffic or access to businesses.
