And the building owner got away with that? Sounds like what I read about preservation attemps for the C&NW station in Chicago where the developer hired architects go in and say it wasn't worth saving, and stuff like that. Of course, that's only a problem if the preservation committee is dumb enough to fall it.
Yeah, I only visit San Jose twice a year now, but I've noted that both the WP branch, and old SP industrial spurs along the original main line are all abandoned. The part of the WP branch immediately north of Highway 680 looks like it has been built over by apartments or condo.
I assume that Valbrick was that crossing fairly close to Spartan Stadium and the San Jose Giants stadium, in there area where those SP spurs were. You can still see rails imbedded next to an old spur crossing of McLaughlin Road between Story Road and the 680 overpass (next to that Burrito place). That was by-far the farthest east reach of those spurs that I'm aware of, and way beyond where I'd expect that network of spurs to have reached. I remember it being intact when I was in high school nearby but not sure what industry it served.
